Research Programs and Entry Requirements
Singapore universities are highly selective — NUS and NTU accept only a small percentage of international applicants. Research your program carefully, including module content, specialization options, industry connections, and graduate outcomes. Note that NUS and NTU have different strengths — NUS excels in medicine, law, and computer science while NTU leads in engineering and materials science.
Check Academic Requirements
Singapore universities evaluate your Class 12 results alongside standardized test scores. NUS and NTU typically require very strong academic results — 90%+ in Class 12 from CBSE or ISC boards is generally expected for competitive programs. Many programs also require or strongly recommend SAT scores of 1400+ or equivalent. IB students should aim for 38+ points. Check each program’s specific requirements on the university website.
Prepare Standardized Test Scores
While not always compulsory, submitting strong SAT scores significantly strengthens your application to NUS and NTU. Aim for SAT 1450+ for competitive programs like Computer Science, Medicine, and Business. Some programs also accept ACT scores. IELTS or TOEFL is generally not required for Indian students from English-medium schools, but check individual program requirements.
Create Your Application Account
Apply directly through each university’s online application portal. NUS applications go through the NUS Admissions portal, NTU through the NTU Admissions portal, and SMU through its own system. Application portals typically open in October for the following August intake. You can apply to multiple programs within one university and to multiple universities simultaneously.
Write Your Personal Statement or Essays
NUS and NTU require a personal statement and short essay responses as part of the application. These ask about your motivation for your chosen program, your extracurricular achievements, and your personal strengths. Unlike UK applications, Singapore personal statements consider both academic passion and personal development. Be specific, genuine, and demonstrate real understanding of the program you are applying to.
Submit Supporting Documents
Upload all required documents through the application portal — academic transcripts, standardized test scores, a passport copy, and reference letters where required. Ensure all documents are in English. Translated documents must be certified. Submit your application well before the deadline — late applications are typically not considered.
Apply for Scholarships
Singapore offers some of the most generous scholarships in Asia for international students. The ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship covers full tuition, accommodation, and a living allowance. NUS and NTU both offer merit-based scholarships for top international applicants. The Singapore Government also offers the Science and Technology Undergraduate Scholarship and other sector-specific awards. Apply for scholarships simultaneously with your university application.
Attend Interview if Shortlisted
Shortlisted applicants may be invited for an interview — conducted either in person in Singapore or via video call for international applicants. Interviews are typically conducted by faculty members and focus on your academic interests, problem-solving ability, and motivation for the program. Prepare by reviewing the program curriculum, reading about current developments in your field, and practicing clear, structured communication.
Receive and Accept Your Offer
Admission results are typically released between April and June. If offered a place, you will receive an electronic offer letter through the university portal. Accept your offer within the stated deadline and pay the tuition fee deposit to confirm your enrollment. If you have applied to multiple universities, compare your offers carefully before deciding — consider scholarship amounts, program quality, and career outcomes.
Apply for Your Student Pass
After accepting your offer, your university will initiate the Student Pass application through the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore via the SOLAR+ system. You will receive an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter which serves as your entry visa. Upon arrival in Singapore, complete the formalities at ICA to collect your Student Pass. The Student Pass allows you to work up to 16 hours per week during term time.
