Inroot is a profile building and university admissions counseling service that guides students from Grade 9 onwards through every stage of their journey to top global universities. We work on extracurricular strategy, essay coaching, test preparation, university selection, and application support for institutions across the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Europe, and Singapore.
The earlier, the better. Ideally, students should begin in Grade 9 or 10 so we have enough time to build a compelling profile through meaningful projects, leadership experiences, and academic achievements. However, we also work with students in Grade 11 and 12 who need focused application support.
Most counseling services focus only on the application. Inroot starts much earlier – we help you build the profile that makes the application compelling. Our approach is project-based, meaning students work on real initiatives in collaboration with NGOs and organizations like Hamari Pahchan that create genuine social impact and demonstrate leadership.
Yes. Our sessions are conducted online so we work with students across India and internationally. All our services – profile building, essay coaching, strategy sessions, and application review are fully available remotely.
While strong academics are important, top universities look at the whole student. Most Ivy League and top 20 US universities expect students to be in the top 10% of their class. However, a slightly lower GPA can be offset by exceptional extracurriculars, a compelling personal narrative, strong recommendations, and outstanding essays. We help you present your strongest self regardless of where you start.
Most US universities accept the SAT or ACT. A score of 1500+ on the SAT or 33+ on the ACT significantly strengthens your application to top-20 schools. Many universities are currently test optional, meaning you can choose not to submit scores – but submitting a strong score still helps. For non-native English speakers, TOEFL or IELTS may also be required.
The Common Application is an online platform through which students can apply to over 1,000 universities in the USA with a single application. It includes sections for personal information, academic history, extracurricular activities, essays, and recommendations. Most major US universities use it. We guide students through every section of the Common App as part of our application support.
Early Decision (ED) is a binding commitment – if accepted, you must attend. Early Action (EA) is non-binding – you receive an early response but are not obligated to enroll. Both typically have deadlines in November and offer higher acceptance rates than Regular Decision. We help students decide whether to apply early and to which school, based on their profile and priorities.
Extremely important – especially for top universities. Admissions officers want to see depth, leadership, and impact rather than a long list of surface-level activities. A student who has led a meaningful project that created real community impact is far more compelling than one who participated in 15 clubs. This is exactly what our profile-building program is designed to help you achieve.
Profile building refers to the process of developing your academic and extracurricular identity in a way that tells a cohesive, compelling story to admissions committees. This includes identifying your interests and strengths, pursuing projects and initiatives that reflect them, building leadership experience, engaging in research, and creating a portfolio of work that makes your application stand out.
We help students design and lead projects that align with their interests – whether in technology, policy, education, environment, arts, or social impact. In partnership with Hamari Pahchan NGO, many of our students have led initiatives such as digital literacy programs, gender awareness workshops, robotics curricula for underprivileged children, and economic policy workshops. These are real projects with measurable outcomes, not resume padding.
While Grade 12 is late to build a profile from scratch, we can still help significantly. In Grade 12, our focus shifts to presenting your existing experiences in the most compelling way, strengthening your essays, securing strong recommendations, and building a well researched university list. Even a short, high impact project completed early in Grade 12 can strengthen an application.
The Common App requires one main personal statement of 650 words. In addition, most universities require supplemental essays – short responses of 100 to 650 words on topics like why you want to attend that specific school, your intended major, or a challenge you have overcome. A typical student applying to 10 to 15 schools may write anywhere from 15 to 30 essays in total. We work with you on every single one.
For US applications, you typically need two teacher recommendations and one counselor recommendation. Choose teachers who know you well, have seen you grow, and can speak to your intellectual curiosity and contribution in their class – not just teachers who gave you your highest grade. We advise students on who to approach, how to brief their recommenders, and how to ensure the letters complement the rest of the application.
Annual costs at top US universities typically range from $55,000 to $80,000 including tuition, housing, and living expenses. However, many universities – including all Ivy League schools – meet 100% of demonstrated financial need. Indian students from families earning under a certain threshold may qualify for substantial need-based aid. Merit scholarships are also available at many universities. We help students identify and apply for scholarships as part of our process.
Yes. Several scholarships are available specifically for Indian students or for international students broadly. These include need-based financial aid from universities themselves, external scholarships like the Tata Scholarship at Cornell, the Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation, the Narotam Sekhsaria Scholarship, and many others. We help students identify scholarships they are eligible for and guide them through the application process.
